Credit Cards Reports

Credit cards reports allow anyone with a credit card to check their credit rating and credit details with their credit card provider. It is important to stay on top of your personal details and credit history for a number of reasons.

Check Your Credit Cards Reports Quarterly:

If you have had problems paying off your credit card by the due date and have run a day or two late with a minimum payment, then it would be a good idea to check every three months to make sure that your credit rating has not been downgraded. If you have had a month or two when you have been late, then as soon as finances improve a bit, pay off as much as you can over and above the minimum due. This will benefit you in two ways:

It will decrease the principal owed on your balance and will lessen the amount of interest that you will pay. It won’t decrease the interest rate but because it decreased the principal balance amount owing it will mean that you will be paying less in the future for the amount that you have borrowed.

It is a very good idea and way of saving money if you can always pay above the minimum due. If you can manage to do that, then you will be paying less money in interest payments over the course of the loan.

The second reason to keep a close eye on your credit cards reports is to avoid any possible identity theft. Every time someone, including yourself, applies for a loan through a store or a credit card, this is reported against your name on your credit report. And the outcome of this request is also added onto your credit cards reports. If someone, apart from yourself, but with the same name as you, has applied for credit in your name and been refused; this is a bad mark against you.  Unless the date of birth is checked and verified, then proving this wasn’t you can become a problem.

Mistakes can also be made because even the people who administer and maintain these financial records are only human and can and do make errors. If someone with the same name as you has a bad credit history and has applied for a credit card, and been refused, then you will need to prove that they have the wrong person. This can become a big problem and the onus is on you to prove that it wasn’t you who applied for the credit.

Fixing a problem before it goes on for too long or becomes too late to do anything about it, can save a lot of time, embarrassment and inconvenience.

Staying on top of your credit cards reports history is necessary at the best of times but when you have been experiencing some financial difficulties then it needs to become a regular financial check-up.
